Snack Day

Tomorrow is Snack Day. Which means of course, that it is our family’s responsibility to bring snacks to each of the kids’ classrooms. Snack day comes with an additional bonus: Sharing Day.
While I baked carrot muffins, sliced cheese and washed grapes for 40 some odd people, WITH a toddler. Someone else worked VERY hard to chose an appropriate item to bring in and SHARE.
First idea: “Achilles!” Granted, we had a pretty monumental day with our kitty, Achilles. He did catch his first mouse. Way to go buddy! That being said, I don’t think that he would appreciate a bunch of excited children staring and poking at him. Second idea from said 5 year old in response to getting a “Hmm, can you think of something else you would like to share” response.
“A Duck!”, she exclaims. Eagerly adding that when she brings her duck to school she will also bring an assortment of duck eggs. Instead, and after much discussion, we settled on bringing an assortment of chicken and duck eggs to compare and contrast AND our dog, Rogue’s baby tooth. Totally logical combination- don’t you think?

Yes, the “muffins” got baked in a cast iron pan. There’s really only so much time in the day!

70!

Happy 70th Birthday

Coeur D’Alene
{not the place}

The last few days have been filled with these two majestically menacing Bald Eagles. They are so beautiful -no doubt. I love watching them fly up and down the river way and ride the updrafts, but when they are flying around the house and perching in the trees surrounding our chicken coop, my perspective shifts…just a bit.
