Goslings!

Our goose family has returned and hatched out another brood!

Kitty Rescue #1

We’ve been busy the last few weeks getting all of the irrigation up and running around Spring Creek Ranch.  Finally we have 40 acres of alfalfa, several lawns, and many, many fruit trees all happily hydrated.

Getting all of the hose, sprinklers and nozzles ready required a lot of trips in and out of the barn where we store seasonal items.  And it was during one of those many trips through the big barn doors that Daren first saw them…kittens!  But while we were all searching for the fur balls we also found…raccoons!  A mother raccoon nursing a litter of baby raccoons.  In case you’re wondering raccoons and kittens do not make good roommates.  Kitty rescue was initiated!

Daren was able to catch a beautiful white kitty with a grey nose first.  We brought her home not quite knowing how wild she or he would likely be.  When my mother called from Boston and asked how our day was she was horrified to learn that we had brought home a “feral savage” – her words.

 Feral?  Savage?

And when we told her that our plan was to give the kitten away to our friends- well, she didn’t think I was being a very kind friend.  But after a few days of cuddling and warm milk our little feral savage would regularly fall asleep in our laps.

I think if you asked this happy sibling duo how they feel about their new kitty…well the answer is written on their faces.  Don’t you think?

’49ers Weekend

A balmy weekend welcomed paraders (yes, that is a word today) to Winthrop, Washington for our annual ’49ers weekend in celebration of all things Western.

At the end of the parade my 3 year old shouted, “Candy fell from the sky Mama! And it tasted goodie!”  Apparently candy is Western in origin as well.
