Backyard Ski Day

The Methow Valley Sports Trails Association put on a wonderful 1st Annual Backyard Ski Day today. This organization which manages all of our groomed cross country ski trails (among other responsibilities) hosted a lovely day at the Winthrop Town Trailhead which is located at Spring Creek Ranch. There was hot coffee, hot cocoa and baked goods courtesy of Rocking Horse Bakery, a hot fire and all the S’mores fix in’s, free skiing, free ice skating and…

Story Ski!
I am a huge fan of story skiing as I have posted about it before. Local author/illustrator Erik Brooks and his daughter (the above polar bear) took children on a ski around our alfalfa field stopping every so often to read pages of his book!
Brillant, yes! My own skier decided that she needed to go at her own pace so we left the gaggle of children with the polar bears and headed to the river.
Here, MVSTA’s Director Extraordinaire, James DeSalvo gave this little girl a ride in the snow cat!

She may look a little wary, but this is a girl who reads Katy and the Big Snow By Virginia Lee Burton every day and who has always loved tractors, back hoes, front end loaders and large equipment. Fear not.
THANK YOU to all of the organizers and participants and I, personally cannot wait for Reggae night at the Ice Rink- tonight!
