About Town :: Sherri’s Ice Cream

Sherri’s homemade ice cream and candy is located at the four way stop in Winthrop and serves many flavors, sugar free options, frozen yogurt and hand made candies. It is also THE PLACE that Ayla gets to chose her hiking candy. A very exciting place in our family!

Owner Doug, gives a wave. The store is named for his wife, Sherri.
The {almost} omnipresent, “Harp Man”
This is what I saw in my rear view mirror seconds after getting in the car. Ah, friendship!

1st cut:: Alfalfa Hay

:: Spring Creek Cabin, nestled at the base of the hill, mid-lower-left.
:: Wind rows
:: Hay drying in the sun, with the Ranch House and Mt. Gardner looking on.
The upper alfalfa field waiting to be bailed. You can see the layout of the Ranch House and the Cabin. They sit on opposite sides of this field, far enough from each other to maintain privacy, but close enough to walk across the field and visit family or friends at the other place.

Next cutting I will get some pictures of local rancher/farmer, Deed Fink who leases our fields and does the cutting and baling. Thank you, Deed!

Hike Highlight:: Look Out Mtn

:: Look, Daren has a new tail!
:: Maeve insisting on hiking herself :: Ayla sets the pace.
:: Candy stick at the top. How sweet!
:: Last snow patch on the mountain.
There are so many wonderful hikes to do in the Methow Valley. We choose Look Out Mtn for our first family hike of the season. I wanted a kid friendly hike to start out the summer and it was a great choice for little, fresh legs. Ayla walked up and back all on her own and even Maeve hiked on her own a bit, after sampling the available shoulder rides.

We have started a new family tradition of going to our local homemade ice cream and candy store, Sherri’s, where Ayla gets to pick out ONE piece of candy that she gets to take on our next hike. So far the experiment has worked beautifully. She gets to eat the candy at the TOP of the mountain and then she is all sugared up for the way down!
This spring was so wet and cold that there is still snow on Martin, Bigelow, Hoodoo and Gardner in the background of these pictures….in late June.
Just one of many family friendly hikes to enjoy in the Methow Valley.

Rogue

Our ever faithful, ever true ranch dog, Rogue got to have her annual shave the other day. This is only the second time that we have shaved her, but we all (including Rogue) love it. She may not love the process of going to the groomer- though everyone else obviously did!

I am always amazed to see how different she looks with her mass of fur gone. I had forgotten that she had spots on her chest! She has been running around like a pup again and getting a lot of attention from the girls who can’t stop telling her how cute she looks and adorning her collar with the homesteaded iris growing everywhere.
Thanks to Lenore in Twisp!

Father’s Day

We asked our Papa what he wanted to do for Father’s Day….
Here we all are with our own tools (I did have my own rake when I put the camera away).
We moved dirt and smoothed dirt and planted more grass seed, fell trees and piled trees and made burn piles….in other words a perfect day for Papa!
